Deep down inside the wide park of Southern Imera is situated the Sabucina Mount.
Attraction national and Provincial touristic centre, it contains the Church of Madonna del Rosario, place particularly important in Caltanissetta history, it is, also,the place of an important archeological site dates beck to the IV° century B.C.
Built in 1938, strictly in “Sabucina stone” by the Cav. Giuseppe Giordano’s will in those days (then) landowner of Sabucina‘s domain was the resident population’s spiritual centre and an important site for catechisis and cultural events.
In 1954 by the G.Uff.L. Giordano’s will, the little church was given to the Diocesan Curia and was consacrated Parrish by H.E. Monsignor Giovanni Iacona.
When was appointed Parrish Priest Father G. Castania and vice Parrish Priest Father S. Scibetta, The Parrish up until 1955, has a period of intensive pastoral recreational and cultural activities as de primary school, catachesis and spiritual meeting.
In 1958, thanks to Regional financial support, tha Church was renovaticol, with the Church tower realisation, the font and the buil of rectory.
The statue bof Madonna ( the Virgin) was manufactured in wood by famous sculptor-artisan from Ortisei, a little town situated in trentino Alto-Adige.
When the statue reached Sicily after a long trip, it was positioned in the opse in place of the pointing representing the Madonna image.
In 1964 Geom. Grazia Francesco planned and directed works to realize the tabernacle in Custonaci marble.
Dell’Aira and Giglio Families donated the inner mosaics (1971/1972).
When Father Castania retired in private life, Sabucina Parrish degraded as Rectorate and it was part of Santa Barbara Parrish situated in the village with the same name, hamlet of Caltanissetta municipaliti.
Father Calogero Di Vincenzo was appointed Church’s Rector.
For a long time the Church remains inactive up until july the 2008 when was renewed the celebration commettee in Madonna’s honour wich is now composed of: Rinaldi Calogero (Chairman) who replaces the retiring chairman Giuseppe Giglio; Mannella Dario (Assistant); D’Amico Antonio ( Treaseurer); Vullo Sebastiano,Lima Calogero, Fedina Maria Assunta, Scribani Michele, Meli Salvatore, Ventura Michele, Zenobio Michele, Ilardo Fabio and Tomasella Michele (Councillors). The commettee stays on three years (2008/2011), it sets oneself the aim to arrange events in Madonna’s honour to support devotion to consolidate the religious life inside families and popular religious celebration.
The solemn feast takes place the first ten days of October with Triduum and processions also the commettee devotes oneself to say one’s rosary every Tuesday fom 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. arrange spiritual meetings for religious community and modern comunication tecnics ( such as television, internet etc..)
